“I had this image in mind of what my great-
grandmother’s kitchen in rural Georgia would have
looked like,” says Linn. Narrow upper cabinets mimic old
fashioned freestanding cupboards,
left.
The enamel sink
was salvaged from the home’s original kitchen.
Glen installed horizontal planks in a hallway,
right,
in
a nod to shiplap siding that once was on the outside
of the house.
A set of 1960s chrome dining chairs balances the
weightiness of an antique pine table,
below right,
and
connects to the updated retro paisley wallpaper.
The bedroom walls,
below,
were a patchwork of old
plaster and plywood. Tearing it out and starting over
“would have been a nightmare,” Linn says. Instead, the
couple nailed up 2"xi" vertical wood strips spaced 16"
apart to create a board-and-batten effect that adds
character and masks imperfections.
